How to Measure Your Head for the Perfect KEP Italia Helmet Fit
Why a Perfect Helmet Fit Matters
A properly fitting riding helmet is essential. Not just for comfort, but more importantly for your safety. KEP Italia helmets are designed with both protection and fit in mind. Choosing the right size involves more than just measuring your head circumference; your head shape also plays a key role.
That’s why KEP Italia offers two types of liners:
-
Oval: ideal for typical European, more oval-shaped heads
-
Narrow: suited for narrower head shapes, often found in North America and Canada
Step-by-Step: How to Measure Your Head
1. Prepare Your Tools
Use a tailor's measuring tape or any soft, flexible tape. If you don’t have one, use a string or cord and measure the length against a ruler.
2. Position the Tape
Place the measuring tape around your head, about 2–2.5 cm above your eyebrows and ears. This is the widest part of your head and gives the most accurate measurement.
3. Measure
Ensure the tape fits snugly but not tightly. Write down the measurement in centimeters. If you're between sizes, choose the larger size and add padding for the perfect fit.
4. Double-Check
Repeat the measurement 2–3 times to ensure accuracy. If possible, ask someone to help or visit an authorized KEP dealer. Then consult the size chart to find your helmet size.
Tip for Long Hair: Tie your hair as you would while riding (in a ponytail or bun). This ensures a more realistic fit when measuring.
KEP Italia Sizing System: Shells & Liners
KEP Italia uses two outer shell sizes:
-
Medium Shell (M): fits liners from size 51 to 58
-
Large Shell (L): fits liners from size 59 to 62
This system allows you to fully customize the fit using interchangeable liners. It guarantees comfort, maximum protection, and long-term value.
Why This Matters
Unlike other brands that use multiple shell sizes, KEP Italia's smart system means:
-
Your helmet grows with you
-
Especially useful for children or growing riders
-
Often, you only need a new liner instead of a whole new helmet
-
More practical and cost-effective in the long run
How to Know If Your Helmet Fits Correctly
A helmet that doesn’t fit properly won’t protect as it should:
-
Too small: feels tight, causes pressure, and may not protect your neck
-
Too big: shifts while riding or during a fall, reducing protection
Quick Fit Test
Put on the helmet, fasten the chin strap, and gently shake your head:
-
If the helmet stays firmly in place, you have the correct size
