KEP Smart Nova vs Cromo 2.0: Which KEP Italia Helmet Should You Choose?

KEP Smart Nova vs Cromo 2.0: Which KEP Italia Helmet Should You Choose?

The KEP Smart Nova is the entry to KEP Italia: the KEP look, fit and five-point chinstrap at the most accessible price in the range. The Cromo 2.0 costs more but is lighter, built from interchangeable parts and fully customisable, even after purchase. If you want to personalise or upgrade your helmet later, choose the Cromo 2.0. If you want a KEP at the lowest price, choose the Nova. Both carry the same safety certifications.

Same safety, different build

The Nova and the Cromo 2.0 are certified to the same standards: EN 1384:2023 and ASTM F1163-23. That means both already meet the FEI helmet rules that apply from 2028. The difference is in the construction. The Cromo 2.0 uses an in-moulded polycarbonate shell, which makes it about 60 g lighter in the M shell. The Nova uses a painted ABS shell, which keeps the price down.

Same sizes, same liners

Both helmets use the same sizing: the Medium shell for sizes 51 to 58 and the Large shell for 59 to 62, with an Oval or Oval Narrow liner. The Nova uses the Cromo 2.0 liner, so a spare liner fits both helmets. Already have a Cromo 2.0 liner in the right size? You can order the Nova without a liner. Not sure about your size? See the KEP Italia size guide.

Choose the Smart Nova if

  • you want a KEP Italia helmet at the lowest price;
  • you like one of the ready-made designs as it is;
  • it is a helmet for a growing rider who will move on to a Cromo 2.0 later.

Choose the Cromo 2.0 if

  • you want to design your own helmet in the KEP Configurator;
  • you want to change the front and rear inserts later instead of buying a new helmet;
  • a lighter helmet matters to you for long days in the saddle.

FAQ

Is the Smart Nova as safe as the Cromo 2.0?

Both are certified to EN 1384:2023 and ASTM F1163-23. The Cromo 2.0 is lighter and more customisable, but it does not carry a higher safety certification.

Can I use my Cromo 2.0 liner in a Smart Nova?

Yes. The Smart Nova uses the Cromo 2.0 liner, as long as the shell size matches.

Can I change the visor on a Smart Nova?

Yes. Like the Cromo 2.0, the Nova has a flexible visor that you can swap yourself. The inserts on the Nova are fixed.
