KEP Italia Line Size Fit

KEP Italia Liners Explained

Everything you need to know about the KEP shell & liner system - sizing, compatibility, head shapes and care.

How the shell & liner system works

KEP Italia helmets are built around two outer shell sizes. Instead of producing a separate helmet for every head size, the correct fit is achieved by selecting the right inner liner. This keeps the system practical: changing liner size does not mean buying a new helmet.

Shell Liner sizes Notes
Medium Shell 51 – 58 Compatible with Standard, Summer and Winter liners where available per model.
Large Shell 59 – 62 Compatible with Standard, Summer and Winter liners where available per model.

Oval or Oval Narrow?

KEP liners come in two head shapes. Which one fits you best depends on the width on the sides of your head - not necessarily on where you live. The regional guidelines below are a starting point; if you are on the border, we can help you choose.

Oval

Slightly wider on the sides. Typically suited to riders in Europe.

Oval Narrow

Narrower on the sides. Typically suited to riders in North America, Canada and Australia.

Which liner fits which helmet?

Not every KEP liner fits every KEP helmet. There are two separate liner systems - and they are not interchangeable.

Helmet model Liner system
Cromo 2.0 Dedicated Cromo 2.0 liner. Not compatible with any other KEP model.
E-Light, Smart, Endurance, Fast Original KEP liner system. These four models share the same liner.
Important Cromo 2.0 liners do not fit E-Light, Smart, Endurance or Fast helmets - and vice versa. Always order the liner version designed for your specific helmet model.

Standard, Summer & Winter liners

Depending on the helmet model, KEP offers different liner options for different conditions.

Liner When to use
Standard liner Everyday riding in moderate temperatures. Good balance of breathability and comfort.
Summer liner Warmer conditions. Designed for maximum airflow and cooling comfort during hot-weather riding.
Winter liner Colder months. Provides extra coverage around the ears and neck.

Why fit matters - and what to do if your helmet presses

KEP Italia was the first helmet manufacturer to offer liners that adapt the helmet to your head - not the other way around. They were also the first to formally recognise oval and oval narrow head shapes. That gives KEP nearly 25 years of real-world feedback on fit and comfort from riders all over the world.

A correctly fitted KEP helmet does not press on your head. It should not cause headaches. If it does, the liner size is off - not the helmet.

How to read pressure points Pressure low on your forehead means the liner is too large. Pressure high on your forehead means the liner is too small. Adjusting one liner size up or down is usually all it takes.

Replacing & washing your liner

Replacing

KEP liners are removable and available as a separate purchase. If your helmet shell is still in good condition, replacing only the liner is often the right solution - and more cost-effective than buying a new helmet.

Growing riders can often move to the next liner size within the same shell. Many riders also keep a second liner for convenience: for example, a different size for riding with hair up versus hair down.

Always check that the replacement liner matches both your helmet model and shell size before ordering.

Washing

Remove the liner from the helmet before washing. It can be hand washed in cold or lukewarm water, or machine washed at 30°C with a mild detergent.

After washing, allow the liner to air dry completely - away from direct heat or sunlight. Do not use a dryer. Avoid aggressive cleaning products or solvents, as these can damage the materials.

Only reinstall the liner once it is fully dry.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Replacement liners are available separately for all compatible KEP Italia models. Make sure to select the liner version for your specific helmet - Cromo 2.0 liners and original KEP liners are not interchangeable.

In many cases, yes. If the shell and the rest of the helmet are still in good condition, a replacement liner is often sufficient - provided it matches your helmet model and shell size.

Often yes. Because KEP uses just two shell sizes, many growing riders can move up to the next compatible liner size within the same shell - without needing a new helmet immediately.

Oval is slightly wider at the temples and typically suited to European riders. Oval Narrow is narrower and typically suited to riders in North America, Canada and Australia. These are guidelines - individual head shape always matters more than location.

No. The Cromo 2.0 has its own dedicated liner that is not compatible with the liner system used in the E-Light, Smart, Endurance and Fast models. Always check compatibility before ordering a replacement.

Yes. Many riders keep two liner sizes - for example when alternating between riding with hair loose or tied up. Both liners must be compatible with your shell size and helmet model.
